My puppy chewed a green beetle. Is it toxic? What symptoms to watch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 5 months old

Just when I was stepping out the front door with wish he jumped and chewed a shiny green beetle, I got it from his mouth and I washed his mouth out, should I be worried? He has never done something like this and I can't find information online about this.

Good job, you did the right thing to get it out of his mouth and rinse it out. Without knowing the exact beetle I can't tell you for sure it's not toxic but generally they can irritate the mouth but not cause a serious problem. As with all toxins keep watch for vomiting, trouble breathing or facial swelling. Take him in right away if they are any abnormal symptoms.
