My puppy refuses diarrhea meds. Does hiding it in food work?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 6 months and 6 days old | 10.6 lbs

My puppy is currently being treated for diarrhea. The problem is she refuses to take her meds. I've managed to trick her up until now but she's too smart. The medicine is given in a syringe. I had to squeeze it on little bone pieces and had her eat it for tonight and I wanted to know will it still work if it is given to her that way? Or is it necessary that it be squeezed into her mouth for it to work?

Thank you for your question regarding Snowball. Couple things that would be nice to know such as what is the medicine and how long are you suppose to give it orally. Not knowing that, giving the medicine with a small treat or food is generally fine as long as it doesn't contribute to more diarrhea. The medicine should work fine as long as the full dose is given at the appropriate time intervals. Please feel free to set up a consultation me to discuss further. Hope Snowball's diarrhea improves soon. Thank you, Dr Steve Popish.
