My dog is retching with no vomit or regurgitation. What could be wrong and how can I treat it at home?

Retching without producing vomitus can potentially be a sign of bloat or stomach torsion. If he is acting painful, has a bloated looking abdomen, is pacing or uncomfortable he needs to go to an emergency vet asap. Other causes of non-productive retching can be a foreign body or irritation to the pharnyx or throat. However if Sparky is at all uncomfortable or painful he needs to go to a vet now.
