Puppy has worms, but is normal. Wait for vet or use OTC treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 17 days old | 30 lbs

My 4 month old lab puppy is supposed to be getting her 3rd deworming along with her last round of puppy shots Sunday but I found worms in her stool today. She is acting normal as well as eating and drinking fine. There is no blood in her poo and as long as she has food in her stomach her stools aren't runny. The only thing is her stomach makes noises like it is upset. Will she be ok to wait until Sunday for her deworming or should I buy her OTC treatment asap?

Great question! I would get Ginger an OTC treatment now. You can give her Panacur, it's an excellent dewormer that kills roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. It's a three day course of treatment and you will need to give her a second round of it two weeks after the first to kill all the worms. She should then be dewormed monthly until six months of age, and then every three months thereafter. I hope this helps :-)
