Is fat in my cat's urine a concern with GI and urination issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

So...should I be concerned there was "some/A bit of fat" found in Mau's urinalysis? The vet tech brushed it off, but all my research and questioning is indicating concern. He had blood work and an exam done, along with a one view X ray that I'm told was fine...he pees in large amounts, but either goes rock hard in his bowel movements or has diarrhea.

Lipid, or fat, droplets are not considered pathologic in a urinalysis. Cats and dogs frequently have a certain amount present in the urine. There can be several causes for the GI upset which should be worked up by your veterinarian if symptoms persist. Large quantities of urine may indicate some degree of renal impairment, especially if he is drinking more and has dilute urine. This would also warrant a work up that may include more blood work to further assess kidney function and an abdominal ultrasound to assess kidney size and architecture.
