My dog ate garlic butter 12 hrs ago, now puking/coughing. Emergency?

My dog ate 8 oz of garlic butter off the counter. It had a lot of garlic in it. She keeps puking. It smells really bad and she keeps coughing. It's been about 12 hours since she ate it. Should I be too concerned?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Koda! My biggest concern is the butter more than the garlic especially now that she is vomiting. High amounts of fat can cause severe gastro-intestinal upset and/or pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can be mild (just vomiting, diarrhea, not eating) to very severe. Garlic causes oxidative damage to the red blood cells causing an anemia. A lot of it probably could cause stomach upset. Since it has been 12 hours and now she is coughing I would get her seen as soon as possible by your Vet. Good luck!
