My cat's stomach swelled weeks after a fall. Is it internal bleeding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 15 years and 2 months old | 28 lbs

My cat had a fall & cut his stomach about 6 weeks ago. The vet checked him over & found no puncture in his abdomen so stiched it up. A couple of weeks ago his stomach has started to swell? Is this internal bleeding?

Hello, thank you for asking your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It would be very unlikely for internal bleeding to manifest itself so late after an injury. Given Barney's age, I would be more concerned about a tumor, but more than likely he may just be putting on a few extra pounds. Have your vet take a good look at him again. Palpating the abdomen, or a quick x-ray should put your mind at ease. Hopefully, all is well with your friend.
