Cat off Ovarid: Why is she losing weight, licking, and lethargic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Female | spayed

My 14 year old female bengal cat has been on Ovarid for 10 years ...treating aggressive behaviour, scratching and licking herself bald and poor appetite ....Ovarid completely changed her to a loving docile cat ...unfortunately Ovarid has been withdrawn rather abruptly from use and my poor cat has completely lost her appetite and is now skin and bone and has started licking and scratching herself again ...no sign of aggressive behaviour but then she is too lethargic probably ! Any suggestions ?

I would be very concerned that sudden removal of this medication could cause an abrupt return to her original symptoms and could even cause other systemic illness. However, there could be other illness occurring and that it is coincidence that the timing occurred when the Ovarid was removed, including hyperthyroidism, diabetes, kidney disease, lymphoma or other cancer, among many others. I recommend that Pennywise see a vet as soon as possible so that appropriate diagnostics can be performed and they can find a way to help her get comfortable again!
