My dog's dry eye isn't improving with current meds. What can I do?

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Female | spayed | 7 years old | 43 lbs

My English bulldog has dry eye. She's been on vetropolycin ointment for nearly two months with no improvement. Is there any other treatment? I put genteal gel into her eye multiple times a day as well

This treatment is clearly not effective. That is probably due to the fact that is not the right treatment for this type of dry eye. Dry eye is often an autoimmune disease, that means that requires an immunosuppressive drug (cyclosporine) to treat it. Please have a look at this link to have a comprehensive explanation about it: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2 2092

I am very sorry to hear about Nahia. If she has been diagnosed with dry eye, or keratoconjunctivitis sicca, there are some other medications that are used to attempt to stimulate tear production. The vetropolycin may treat secondary infection but wouldn't stimulate tear production. The most commonly used drug for this purpose is cyclosporine (most commonly used trade name is Optimmune). Another medication we sometimes try if this is not successful is Tacrolimus. You can read more about the treatment options at http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A
