I have my puppy daisy who is 10 months old and we may believe she is pregnant. Her nipples are very swollen and she just finished her first heat. Is she old enough to have puppies or are their higher risks for her since she's so young?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are many animals that have their first litters before age 1. Risks with pregnancy are more likely if the father is a larger breed dog than Daisy. It's hard for me to tell you if she is pregnant. If she just stopped bleeding after her heat then that is way to early to have swollen nipples from pregnancy. Her nipples could be swollen from being in heat or from a false pregnancy. A false pregnancy is where the dog THINKS she is pregnant from hormones but isn't actually pregnant. If Daisy finished bleeding a month ago then the swollen nipples could be from pregnancy. You could have an X-ray done 45 days after she stopped bleeding to look for puppies. Good luck!
