Why is my pit bull shedding so much fur in clumps after boarding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 7 years and 6 months old | 50 lbs

My 7 year old pit bull just came home from a two-night stay at our crate free boarding facility. She seems to be shedding a lot. When I pet her, small clumps of her fur are coming off of her. What could be the cause of this?

Hello, dogs may shed their coat normally at least 2 times per year. Other causes of increased shedding include stress most commonly, metabolic abnormalities (hormonal imbalances), and infectious causes. If her shedding doesn't resolve in a few days, I would recommend visiting your veterinarian for an evaluation. Best of luck!
