Why is my senior Shih Tzu constipated & vomiting after pancreatitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 9 years and 7 months old | 13 lbs

Or Shitzu 9 year old dog who recently had a bad pancreatic attact. He has come home and started to come around and is on a special diet. He has been doing better for over a week. His bowel movements have been normal since and he has been eating well. Now he has stopped having a bowel movement. It has been about 3 days and even though he is eating he is definitely not himself. He has thrown up a little bit each day as well. Any advice we can get we appreciate we are panicking

It sounds like Little Bear may be constipated. If he is eating and keeping most of it down, he should have at least 1 bowel movement per day. I recommend that he go to the vet to asses his constipation and receive appropriate treatment. Ongoing nausea is also common while healing from pancreatitis, so this is something else you may want to discuss with your vet. Often mild antinausea medications or antacids are all that is needed to give comfort for mild nausea.
