Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | spayed | 7 years old
My 7 year old maltese has had an op to have her uterus removed (due to pyometra) a week ago. Before she was diagnosed we noticed her shivering and trembling off and on. She is still shivering and trembling up to now. She was checked at the spca and we were told there is no further infection in her and she does not have a fever. What could be the other reasons for her shivering? Please help

Pain/discomfort and high temperature are usually the main common reasons for muscle tremors/shivering. I would recommend to have her checked again and have some pain relief medications prescribed. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

She may still have some discomfort from the surgery. If she had surgery at the SPCA they should be able to prescribe pain medication. Small dogs often show more pain than larger dogs and shivering and trembling are signs of pain. Please do not use human pain medication.
