My Shih Tzu puppy has liquid poop on antibiotics. Is it a side effect?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | 6 months and 10 days old | 3.3 lbs

My dog has a dark brown liquid poop. He doesn't eat nor drink. But I see him wanting to drink, he just couldn't open his mouth. He's 6 months old shih tzu. When we went to the vet, they checked their blood and found out thay he has a very low platelet. (59 count). He's currently taking an antibiotic. Is the poop due to the medicine? He used to vomit but after taking meds, he doesn't anymore. Thank you!

Vomiting, diarrhea and a change in appetite can be common side effects of most antibiotics. Since he is not eating and having diarrhea m, it is best to have him rechecked to see if there is another medicine and to make sure he isn't getting dehydrated. You may try a canine probiotic and boiled chicken and rice or low fat yogurt to help with the diarrhea and appetite.
