My cat ate a poisoned mouse, no symptoms yet, no vet open. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 14 years and 7 months old | 8 lbs

My 14 year old cat may have ingested a mouse that was poisoned with Bromethalin. It was within 6 hours, and he is not showing symptoms yet. There are no vets open near me; what can I do to help my cat?

Bromethalin is a highly toxic substance for cats, symptoms include hyperexcitability, muscle tremors, grand mal seizures, hindlimb hyperreflexia, CNS depression, hyperthermia, and death. treatment is mainly symptomatic but cannot be done at home, only a vet can help your cat if symptoms occur (fluids, anti seizure medications, stomach lavage).
