Why is my senior dog constantly peeing or straining after antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 75 lbs

I took my 10 year old dog to the vet approx. 6 weeks ago. He had a bacterial infection. He was given antibiotics and got over it. But now he is continually peeing or trying to pee all over in the yard. It is like he is obsessed. When he was at the vet they did bloodwork and we were told he was very healthy in all ways , i.e. kidneys, liver, etc.

It is important to see if he is trying to urinate and passing urine or just straining with no output. This may be a sign of a bladder infection or bladder stones. Either of these can have perfectly normal blood work associated with it. You will need a urine sample and an x-ray to see the stones and/or infection
