Do male and female pets get along, or multiple females together?

Male and female combinations may get along better BUT many households have single sex pets and absolutely no problems. The biggest factor is individual personality. WIth some patience and training, they may be able to get along. Consider a pheromone product, such as the Adaptil Collar or DAP plug in diffusers, to decrease any anxiety or aggression in the home. First, allow them to hear and smell one another through a closed door. As they progress, you can allow them to see one another but without physical contact. Correct any aggressive or negative behavior immediately. The next step would be to place one of them in a closed carrier and leave them in the same room. Do this for ever increasing periods of time until they are acclimated. Finally, allow short, supervised playtime. Be consistent and praise/reward good behavior. Separate them if they get "rowdy" until they settle down, then reintroduce them.

When you first bring your puppy home, I would keep them in rooms separated by a door. This way, they can get used to the smells and sounds of each other without contact. Make sure your kitten has a litter box, food, and water in their room. You can also place a blanket with the puppy's smell in the kitten's room, and a blanket with the kitten's smell in the puppy's room. An intact female and an intact male will both be more likely to show aggression than one who has been neutered or spayed, so regardless of which you choose, please have him/her neutered/spayed. You can find all kinds of things online that say that females are easier to train, or that males tend to be more loyal or attached to you... after practicing veterinary medicine for 14 years --interacting with literally thousands of dogs and their people --and having a number of dogs of my own, both male and female, I can just reiterate what I said initially--there is no hard and fast rule. I am sorry to hear about your female. In general, it doesn't matter too much as long as you are planning on getting them spayed and neutered, and as long as they are about the same size. I would agree that rabbits definitely do better in pairs. If you do not intend on getting them spayed / neutered, I would not have two adult in tact males together due to the largest chance of fighting. Also, if you have an intact male and female together, I don't think I need to tell you what the result will be ultimately!

There is much evidence that guinea pigs are "happier" and do better in pairs or groups so it's a great idea to get more than one! If you are getting mature guinea pigs try to get a pair that is already bonded. Be 100% sure of their sex because pet stores frequently mis-sex animals and knowingly or unknowingly sell a pregnant female or a breeding pair. Getting two males or two females does not matter. One set of sexes is not better than the other. Just don't get one male and one female or you will have a whole bunch of guinea pigs in a short period of time!! Getting a new cat is tricky. Cats are like humans, sometimes they need friends and sometimes they prefer to be alone. If you think Fright needs a friend, I would recommend looking for groups that would allow you to try it out for a week and see how Fright responds. Gender doesn't usually make a difference.
