Kitten's raspy meow, not eating, and dilated pupils. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 months and 4 days old

Recently my kitten (6-7 month old) had an odd change in boice making her often high pitched meow sound raspy, she has no unusual discharge from her eyes or nose or any drooling though she does rarely sneeze. There has been no coughing but she did not eat last night and has had blown pupils this morning. We suspect she in pain though she has not stopped playing or drinking water and did eat a little this morning. Her next worm injection day is near. What do you believe is the cause for this?

I would be suspicious of a polyp (cyst) in the throat from what you're describing. There could also be an infection, but I would expect to see some eye and nose discharge if that were the case. Either way, Hera should really see a vet, so they can check down her throat. You are right to think that she is in pain. It seems like she is getting worse rather quickly, so you should probably get her checked sometime in the next 24 hours. The deworm medication can wait, so don't worry about that until she is cleared of this problem.
