It's good that you provided a picture, because diarrhea and vomiting can range in severity. The picture shows that the stool is dark and has some redness. This indicates bleeding in the intestines and is something that I would want to give treatment for, so unfortunately, I do think you should take Jasper to a vet. If you explain to the vet that money is a concern, then they can likely provide basic treatment that could fix Jasper for a small cost. Look in your area for any non-profit vets or vets that advertise low-cost. I hope that helps.

I am very sorry to hear that Jasper is experiencing this issue, I am sure it is unsettling. From what you are describing, as well as the picture you provided, vomiting and diarrhoea fresh blood in it, it sounds as though Jasper has colitis, or inflammation of the last portion of the large intestines. There are several causes of colitis in dogs, ranging from bacterial infections, parasite infestations, IBD, or ingestion of contaminated food. Since you have only noticed one such episode I would continue to monitor Jasper at home. Provide a bland diet of boiled boneless chicken breast and white rice and plenty of fresh water. If the episodes continue, if Jasper becomes depressed, passes large amounts of blood, vomits, or seems very uncomfortable take Jasper to see his vet. I hope this answer was helpful and more importantly that Jasper feels better soon. Warmest regards to you both.
