Why is my cat losing weight, not eating, and has a bald patch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

My cat has been spending lots of time outside recently and has not been eating the usual amount. She refused to eat dry food, so I tried wet food and she seems to like that. She has noticeably lost weight. I also noticed that on her ear there is a thin patch of hair that is now bald and I can feel the smoothness of her skin.

IF she isn't eating properly and losing weight, there is definitely something wrong with her, if she eats the wet food with great appetite, then the dry food must be the issue and that could be either due to a teeth disease or a partial GI blockage. either way you need to take her to the vet ASAP, she will need to be checked, especially her mouth, if nothing unusual is found during the physical examination the next step will be a blood test to try and find out what is wrong.
