My pet's ear hurts badly and they won't let me touch it. What's wrong?

her ear is very painful and she really won't let me look at it any idea what this may be

As there is not species noted or age, this is quite difficult for me to assess with your description and photos. I will try to help as much as I can though. This looks like the inside of the ear under the ear flap. I cannot see the entrance to the ear canal and it looks quite swollen. I would strongly urge you to see your veterinarian to have this diagnosed and treated appropriately. When ear infections get this bad they can be quite difficult to treat. It may be a long road to treat this and get 100% resolution. Most likely this will require oral medications and topical ear medications. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
