Safe bug repellent for outdoor rabbits & how to wash fleece?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 9 months old

I take my rabbits outside (in their habitats) for an hour a day. We live by a river, so lots of mosquitoes, and other bugs. What can I use to keep the insects away, without hurting the rabbits? Also, instead of using wood chips, or paper bedding im going to start using fleece fabric, can I wash it with normal Landry detergent or should I wash without?

The best flea / mite treatment and preventative in my opinion for rabbits Revolution, which is a prescription product marketed for cats and dogs. Typically, in a small Lionhead rabbit, you should use the smallest size of Revolution available, which is designed for kittens under 5 lbs. Hope this helps.
