Why is my cat suddenly jumpy and skittish around the sliding door?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 7 years and 1 month old | 7 lbs

I dont know if this can be answered here, but personally it has me puzzled. Even my mom doesn't know what happened. It only started this morning, and it's still going on. It's like she saw or smells something we don't/can't. But My cat USUALLY goes to our back sliding door w/ out a problem. All day to day, she's been really jumpy/Skittish of it. She didn't get anything she wasn't suppsed to/She didn't get caught in the door, completely normal otherwise. Has no problem w/ the rest of the house.

I think you are right to think that something must have spooked her near that door. Or, something is still spooking her. One simple way you can attempt to find the problem is by getting on the cat's level and looking at the area that she seems skittish of. This means you'll have to get on the ground and spend some time looking around. Look for something new in the area, or anything that may be scary to a cat as you look outdoors. It's not always obvious...even a simple move to furniture may be spooky. I hope that helps.
