Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Female | spayed | 12 years and 2 months old | 18 lbs
Hello. I have an eleven year old miniature schnauzer. I just noticed a cut she has near her right eye on the top of her head. It is small and I was able to clean it out. Is there anything else I should do? Also, she keeps rubbing her head on the carpet because I think the cut is itchy. Will this injure her further? If so, how do I get her to stop. She has also been licking her front right leg for about an hour. She has a history of getting hot spots & I think she might be getting another. Thanks

I would not put any topical medication on the cut. If she is trying to rub or scratch it an e-collar may be helpful to prevent her from causing more trauma. This will also help keep her from licking her legs. If either lesions becomes red or oozing she may require a vet visit for antibiotics. But many of these will heal of you can prevent her from scratching, licking or rubbing them. Most vet clinics, pet stores or feed stores have e-collars if you don't have one for her.
