Should I worry if my cat pants at birth spot after delivery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

My cat just queened last night and she every once in a while she tries to go back to the place where she gave birth and she kind of pants when she goes there. She does not try to bring her babies with her. She's not neglecting her babies. She cleans them, snuggles them to her and allows them to latch and purrs the whole time. Should I be concerned?

This sounds like an odd behavior. Did Watson have x-rays prior to having kittens to count how many she should deliver? It is possible that there is still a remaining kitten inside and that she is going back to her delivery area in an attempt to pass the remaining kitten. I would recommend that she be seen by a vet to make sure there is not one leftover.
