My healthy cat died from poisoning. Could FIV have been the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat had to be put down, the vet said he was poisoned,it was too late to put him on a drip as his blood pressure was too low.. I took him in a year ago as he had been abanded, but he was about 8 n very healthy...could cat FIV been the cause, I don't believe he would have eaten bait as he always had food available.p.s He dribbled quite often.thank you.debbie Knaap.

I'm very sorry for your loss Debbie, he looked like a very lovely cat. FIV could have been the cause although usually you would see gradual deterioration rather than an acute picture such as what he experienced, i cannot know what has caused it for sure but because of the very sudden symptoms i would say poisoning is a very probable cause.
