My senior cat has FIP and is suffering. Is euthanasia the best option?

Pet's info: Cat | American Wirehair | Male | neutered | 16 years and 2 months old

I got a cat 15 yrs old diagnosed by his vet as FIP wet .... the doctor suggested to put him to sleep I am truly confused to do thia although he said this will help him to stop his suffer since supportive treatments wont help him anymore as he atopped eating ... is this correct?

Unfortunately, there is no treatment for FIP and if your cat is suffering then euthanasia is the best option. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this and make this decision. I wish there was more we could recommend for you but I think you're a vet has your cats best interest at heart.

    Poor Lord Fluffy. FIP is such a terrible disease that cannot be cured. Of course, this has to be a decision for you but in my experience they are better off euthanized simply because they just continue to go down hill until they pass away. You know he cannot be cured therefore euthanasia will allow him to go in peace. My thoughts are with you as I know this is a terrible situation and difficult decision.

    A specialist ultrasound may be able to determine the underlying nature of the mass but this may not help in finding any possible treatment course. If his is mobile, sociable and willing to eat enough to maintain his body condition, palliative care options are worth considering.
