Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I rescued a ball python who had a respiratory infection and a rat bite infection he has healed from both but now that they have healed I have now realized he has mouth rot in the front of his mouth. what is the best way for me to fix it myself I don't have the money to take him to a vet if there is a way I could heal it I would love to know. Hes my beautiful python and i would hate to loose him if i could get some advice i would be extremely grateful

If the mouth rot is minor, you can use a dilute chlorhexadine or dilute Listerine and a cotton swab to gently wipe the affected area twice daily. Increasing temperature by about 5-10 F may also help. If you are seeing "cheesy" discharge, Peter should be seen by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles.
