My dog is vomiting, has diarrhea, and green poop. Can I give antacid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 5 years and 8 months old | 20 lbs

My dog is having a terrible issue with pooping and puking. He gets constipated alot and than has diarea and pukes for days. Recently he's been acting very strange. He pooped in his food bowl and it was runny and a little green. He's been laying in the bathroom crying howling. We don't know what to do. We've changed foods. Alot. Nothing seems to be working. We wanna try antacid. But don't know if it's okay with dogs and/or how much to give him. He is a 20lbs puggle mix.

Vomiting and diarrhea together is commonly referred to as gastroenteritis. There can be several causes for gastroenteritis including pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites and a foreign body/blockage. Since Jose has been so sick for several days I would recommend taking him to the vet to be evaluated. Your vet may recommend blood work and X-rays to figure out what exactly is going on. I would not recommend giving the antacid st this time since we do not know the cause of the problem. Medicating unnecessarily could cause more harm than good. Best of luck.
