Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed
I don't have air conditioning in my apartment and it can get quite hot in the mid afternoon - sometimes I'm away at work. How can I best keep my cat cool and safe? She is terrified of humans and while she's getting more and more comfortable in my home, I'm unable to get close to her so I need ways to make sure she's cool without being able to pet her, wet her paws etc. She has lots of water and sleeps under my bed - are cooling mats useful? If so, what do you recommend? Thank you!

I'm glad you are concerned. When cats are relaxed they tolerate the heat well. Using a small quiet fan to circulate the air and a cooling mat would be helpful. There are many brands of cooling mats, make sure you get one recommended for cats. Don't be surprised is she won't use it though! After all cats have a mind of their own. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Wendy.
