How to treat my dog's clogged sweat glands on her head or face?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

At first I thought my dog had a huge tick on her head but it turned out to be a clogged sweat gland. Now she's developing one on her face. How can we get rid of them?

It would be really helpful if you could take some pictures to show exactly what you are referring to. Dogs only have "true" sweat glands on the hairless parts of their body including areas like their feet or nose. The other glands which function in a similar matter are called apocrine glands and are associated with every single hair follicle on the body. If your dog has a blocked apocrine gland resulting in some build up or fluid, the only way to resolve this issue usually is by draining it or surgically removing the problem gland. Hope this helps.
