My indoor cat has itchy, infected sores on her back. What's wrong?

My cat has sores on the small of get back that look infected. She is an indoor cat. She started scratching a couple of weeks ago and now this.

That does look very uncomfortable for Yuki! And I agree that there is probably some infection present. A common cause for itching this area in pets is flea allergies. Some pets are allergic to flea saliva and it only take the bite of one flea for them to be itchy all over. Other potential causes are bacterial infections or immune issues. I recommend that Yuki see your vet so that she can get the appropriate treatment. Until your appointment you can apply a thin layer of Neosporin to the areas, just try to keep her from licking it off!

    That may be due to an allergy, although fleas mites or skin infection could be the cause. I would recommend to treat with a good quality flea treatment first of all, then to discuss with your veterinarian further skin tests to rule out or reveal infection or mites infestation. Antibiotics and possibly steroids can be given to solve skin lesions. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you require further informations or want to discuss it in more details.
