Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Nora! If they appeared suddenly they are likely hives from an allergic reaction from a bug bite or other allergen. I'd call your Vet this morning and set up an appointment. They likely will give her a steroid and antihistamine injection if hives. Good luck!

This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

I think it's very likely that this is an allergic reaction. What you're describing sounds like hives ("urticaria" is the medical term), and the fact that the bumps are increasing in size and in number suggests that Nibbles is continuing to have a reaction. Unfortunately, it's difficult to say exactly what she's reacting to - could be new laundry detergent, new clothing, the Christmas tree - almost anything. She likely needs to see a vet today to get an injection of a couple of medications - the injectable form of Benadryl (works much faster and better than the capsule) and a steroid injection - to decrease the inflammation. I'd take her in now to get this checked.
