My 1-year-old dog prefers human food and drinks from the toilet. Why?

Why does my 1 year old dog like to eat people food more then the dog food? He also like to drink out of the toilet. Why? We have a big water dish for him. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 55 lbs

People food has more calories and is probably tastier to your dog than his dog food. However, it is not good for him to only eat people food. It could lead to obesity and nutritional deficiencies. I would recommend that you stop giving him any people food at all. This will encourage him to eat his own food. He may not eat his food right away but he will eat it once he is hungry enough. As for drinking out of the toilet bowl, this is probably just a behavioral issue and if you decline him accesses to the toilet by closing the lid or keeping the door closed he will stop doing it.
