Why is my cat sick with mouth sores and rash after boarding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Female | 1 year and 1 month old | 2 lbs

My cat is a year old and we just had her boarded while on vacation. Now her nose and mouth have a spreading goopy rash and her tongue has a huge red sore that looks like its raw. What can this be? It has little blisters all over her nose and mouth with puss and i cant get her in at the vet until tomorrow? She is super exhausted and dehydrated

I'm sorry to hear about this. I know it can be really stressful to come home from a vacation and see that your pet has an issue after boarding. It looks like your cat had a stressful boarding time. This is actually quite common. Cats don't always do very well in new environments and can stress out their immune systems very easily. This could be the cause of the goopy eyes and the blisters in the mouth. The spot on the nose could be from rubbing her face on the bars due to stress. It looks like something that you could wait to take your cat to the regular vet, so I would not worry about that. Let her relax at home and give her plenty of food and water and quiet time until you can get her to the vet. Please feel free to consult with me if you have any more questions, but I think some R&R will help Punkin get back to her old self!
