My 9-year-old lab has a bleeding ear growth. Should it be removed?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 8 years and 8 months old | 70 lbs

My 9 year old lab has a cyst like blood ball on her ear. It started small and has grown over the years. Keeps bleeding when she plays with our other dog and is growing hair. Does this need cut off?

This mass is probably benign (not cancerous). However it seems to be causing some problems because it keeps opening up and bleeding. This could lead to infection and potentially a more serious problem. Since it is problematic I would recommend speaking to your vet about having it removed. It may be able to be done with only local anesthesia or light sedation.

    HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The ear is a very vascular part of the body! Masses or any surgery of the ear is frustrating due to how bloody they can be. I think to prevent continued bleeding and possible secondary infections I would recommend removing it. Just be prepared that the incision afterwards can sometimes be challenging because it to will bleed if Stella shakes her head or paws at it! Good luck!
