My cat is scared to leave the room due to other cats fighting. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 3 months old | 15 lbs

When I moved in with my boyfriend he had a two cats and I had a cat. His cats are siblings both male and female and my cat is a male. They are all around the same age two of them are 4 years old and one is 3 years old. They are all nurtured and spayed yet the female cats loves fighting my cat. My cat Weasley refuses to leave a room in fear of being beat up. It's been over 6 months and they are still fighting. I've tried everything and now I feel guilty because my once social cat is scared. Help!

Introducing a new cat to the house is like getting a roommate you didn't choose, it isn't always a great fit! Make sure that Weasley has a safe space to escape with his own litter box and food and water. Make sure he gets plenty of one on one attention. Once he feels he is safe again, you can slowly reintroduce him to the other cats. If you have a very tall baby gate or screen door, you can keep the cats separated that way, but they can still interact. It can take several years for cat's to get along, and some never really do!
