How to stop my beagle from chewing, biting, and pottying inside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 9 months old | 30 lbs

We have a 10 month old male beagle. He is fixed. We rescued him at 8 months. He refuses to go to the bathroom outside. He will always go in the bathroom. Even if he does go outside he still will come in the house and go in the bathroom. We tried crate training but he has no problem going in his crate. He also chews everything. Toys, shoes, furniture anything he can get his mouth on. He will also bite if he doesn't want to do something. We're at our wits end

I am sorry you are struggling with Henry. Rescue dogs can be a challenge since we do not know there back story. I would recommend trying to stay very consistent with the potty training. Making sure you are taking him out very often and rewarding going to the bathroom outside. I would try to keep him in the same room as you- some people will even tether themselves to there pet to help with potty training. I would highly recommend getting a trainer involved to help out and come to the house. They can help you work on basic commands like sit, come and stay. Than once he learns these it can start to be used to control bad behavior. I would try to increase activity as well. A lot of times chewing is related to boredom. Try playing fetch, running or even puppy daycare,.
