My senior dog is skinny, won't eat, and itching. What should I do?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 11 years and 9 months old | 48 lbs

My 12 year old springer mix is getting skinnier and not eating very well. We try to put a little bit of warm water on his food (blue-buffalo-basics-limited-ingredient-formula-adult-dry-dog-food) to entice him to eat which used to work great and now it doesn't. We even added a wrapped meatloaf thing from the pet store and he just isn't interested most of the time. He is also itching like crazy.

I'm sorry to hear Hurley is losing weight. As he is a senior dog he could be having dental problems, arthritis pain or a metobolic problem that is causing him not to eat well. I recommend an exam and blood work to find the reason he is not eating well and is so itchy. Then they can get him treatment so hopefully he will get better soon. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Hurley.
