My Maltese has tear stains on antibiotics. What else can I try?

We have a 2 year old Maltese with a terrible tear stain problem. He is on an antibiotic daily and it went away while we lived in Florida. We have now moved to Iowa and the brown stain is back even while on medication. Is there anything else we can use to eliminate this? Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 7 lbs

I'm sorry to hear Tucker is having issues with tear staining. It can be normal in dogs with a light hair coat to see some coloration from normal discharge around the eyes. In some dogs, it can be improved with an oral probiotic, or an over the counter remedy designed specifically for this issue. Allergies can also exacerbate the discharge seasonally. I would touch base with his veterinarian to discuss what options may be available to him that may help. Good luck!
