My cat has a deep wound on his side, muscle showing. Why is he calm?

Not sure what got him but I just got home and noticed this on my cats side behind his shoulder. I can see the muscle and he's acting really calm which is not normal for him at all.

He has an open skin wound perhaps from a cat fight. You can trim the surrounding fur and gently clean the area with warm water or peroxide. Then apply a very thin film of antibacterial ointment. Do this twice daily until healed. If the area gets puss or bad odor or painful you need to take Jismo to your veterinarian for an exam and treatment. They will prescribe antibiotics if it gets infected. This area will close up and should heal quickly. I hope this helps you take care of Jismo's injury.

Your cat has a laceration that may need veterinary attention. It could be a bite wound, a ruptured abscess ( a localized infection) or a cut. It may need suturing or a drain placed if there is infection present or a bigger area that's unseen. Jismo may be quiet from pain or from a fever due to infection. I would take him to a vet who will take his body temperature, examine to wound further and decide if it needs to be sutured.
