Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Female | spayed | 3 months and 22 days old | 20 lbs
I have a 4 month old Akita who does not like the leash. What is the best way for me to get her to walk on the leash? Also she is potty trained for the most part but still pees on the floor from time to time, why?

The easiest way to leash train is to put the leash on her and let her walk around the house with it on. From there you can start to control the other side once she is no longer afraid of it. Start by using treats or something she wants to get her to come to you with a gentle pull of the leash and say come. She will begin to associated the leash and how it works then you can increase the distance and start changing environments for walks. She is a little young to be fully house trained, so it is not uncommon for her to have an occasional accident still. She may be too wrapped up in playing inside or outside to remember to go. make sure you still take her out frequently and stay consistent with her routine.

I recommend getting a piece of rope and tie it to her collar so she can drag it around with her. This will get her used to something on her collar before leashing her. Once she gets used to that hold the rope and tempt her forward with a treat. It's going to take a lot of praise and repetition. For the potty training, always use positive reinforcement, never punish when she makes a mistake. Have a consistent schedule. And when she's outside make sure she finishes by waiting another 5-10 mins after she goes. Continue lots of praise and she will get the hang of it. Kisses to Keela!
