My dog has an open eye wound and is lethargic. Does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Female | spayed | 7 years and 8 months old | 30 lbs

my boston terrier has a laceration about an inch and a half over her eye. Not sure how it happened. I put hydrogen peroxide and neosporin on it. She is eating, drinking, and maybe a little lethargic. She is not shaking or panting, however the wound is still open.

That appears deep enough and long enough it will require stitches to heal quicker and antibiotics so it will not get infected since the source is unknown. It is best to have it evaluated this evening if possible, but if not, then keep Neosporin on it and discourage her from scratching it and visit a vet in the morning.
