Hi: My 85 lb. dog has been hiding in the dark furnace room since Fri. evening. She is petrified of Fire Works ...... and they have been going off every evening and will be for the rest of the week (due to the Tall Ships being here). I have always had "Calm Aids" for her anxiety & panicking, however they do not do anything to calm her down!! In general diazepam is not a great sedative in dogs - it does not cause significant sedation on it's own and does not last very long - so I do not prescribe it for noise phobias. I definitely would not recommend giving a prescription medication unless it was specifically prescribed to Missy. You may want to consider calling your veterinarian and seeing if they can recommend another medication as a sedative. Otherwise you could try things like Thundershirt or playing music to muffle the sound of the fireworks.
