My kitten has bald patches and dry, flaky skin. Is it ringworm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3.5 lbs

My kitten is about 12 weeks old and I recently brought her to a vets to find out she had two broken legs. Since then I have noticed that she has 4 bald patches on her body back of ear, back of neck, cheek, one leg. The skin underneath is a dark colour that is flaky and dry almost like a scab. Not scratching excessively though to be honest to me it seems like a normal amount of scratching. I was wondering from these symptoms could you identify what it is and how to treat it? Thanks in advance.

Poor, Kiara, I hope her legs are on the mend! There are several things that could be causing the dry patches in your pictures. The most common cause in a kitten would be ringworm (a type of fungus), but there are other possibilities like mites. I recommend having Kiara rechecked by your veterinarian and discussing recommended treatments, as there are several different options. Also, know that ringworm can be passed on to humans. If you have any concerning spots, make sure to discuss with your human doctor!
