My dog has a scab on her leg, licking it but not painful. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 11 months old

I just noticed a "scab" on my dogs right leg. She was briefly licking it but not excessively. She doesn't limp or show signs of pain if we touch it. Just wanted to know what it is and if there is anything we need todo?

If no more scabby areas show up and it doesn't get bigger, I wouldn't worry about it. She may have scratched herself on something. If things change, I recommend an exam by a vet to determine and treat the cause. You can clean it once with mild soap and water but the more you mess with it the longer it will take to heal.
