How to stop my dog's territorial and attention barking at everything?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 6 months and 30 days old

Whenever my dog is in the yard, even on walks he will bark at absolutely everything. My neighbours can't be in their yard birds/insect can't fly by without him going crazy, he even barks at us walking through the house when it's clear it's us and especially with visitors. He's very territorial and will often bark to get attention. I have put a crate outside and have started putting him in it for time out when he barks as he won't listen, will this help him understand or do no good?

Tua needs desensitization training. Basically, you need to approach something that makes him bark, and right before he does you need to redirect his attention with something else. This is difficult to explain with one message. I am happy to discuss this further with a consult or I would recommend an in home dog trainer that can work with you and Tua one on one. The problem isn't the bark, it's what his is barking at and you need to train him to redirect his attention. Good luck with Tua!
