Dog has swollen abdomen from insect bite. Benadryl helped, what's next?

I think my dog got bit by some sort of insect and he has a sack hanging from his abdomen. We know he made an allergy to something because he got a little better with benadryl

Yes that is right as it seems to be an allergic reaction. If the signs persist in the next 48hours, I would recommend to use a steroid based topical or systemic medication (on prescription) to stop completely the allergic process and resolve the signs.     Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Honey! Her leg is very swollen and I highly recommend taking her to the Vet today. It could be an allergic reaction from an insect but it could be something more serious: lymphatic obstruction from a mass/cancer, low blood protein, vasculitis, snake bite.     This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if Neno is lethargic, take her to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Kyle. You are giving Benadryl plus Congestion. Unless specifically directed to do so by his veterinarian, I would stop this medication. He should be receiving just Benadryl which contains only diphenhydramine. Some dogs will require ongoing doses of steroids to keep the swelling down in the days following the reaction. His veterinarian may prescribe an antibiotic for the wounds that have started as well. I recommend contacting his veterinarian and see if a recheck appointment is necessary to discuss his medication. My dog just got stung by a bee in the mouth he was pretty swollen so I took him out to the river so it could serve as a swollen reducer. It did work his swelling went down but know hes getting rashes and getting itchy Im shour its an allergic reactio

Not sure if my dog got bit by something or has allergies. She has some swelling and hair loss above her right eye. What do you recommend we do? We gave her some Benadryl and the swelling is slowly going down
Hello. The Benadryl was appropriate. If she will let you, you can put a cool compress over the eye to see if that brings the swelling down further. If the area surrounding the eye is still looking significantly swollen on Monday, than do have her examined for the possibility of an infection in the skin. Thanks for contacting Boop by Petco.

My english bulldog puppy got bit by something last night and his face swelled up like a balloon. We gave him 50 mg of Benadryl at midnight last night, and every 4 hours since. He is acting normal, still itchy it looks like, and still a little swollen
If the Benadryl was effective, I would have expected to see a reduction in the swelling by now. Sometimes allergic reactions require stronger drugs to treat such a steroids, and it sounds like this may be the cause for Moose. Because the swelling hasn't reduced and the reaction appears to be progressing, it's time to see a vet immediately. Please take him into an ER vet clinic if your regular vet is closed; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

It looks like allergic reaction. Milo could have been bitten or stung by an insect, it might be reaction to plants or pollen but it is less likely. If Benadryl hasn't helped, you need to take your dog to your local vets to get more potent anti-allergic medication by infection.

Got home from work and my dogs muzzle/nose was swollen. I don’t know if something bit her or something. Gave her half of a half of Benadryl. Is there anything else I can buy for her? She’s a dachshound mix.
Oh my goodness, poor pup! This is quite swollen. Unfortunately Benadryl is really the only over the counter medication we may use for allergic reaction such as this (at least that is what we would suspect with this appearance). If the swelling doesn't start to go down with the Benadryl, if she had trouble breathing or starts vomiting then I would recommend taking her to the emergency vet. These pets often also need a steroid to get this reaction under control. It also sounds like perhaps she could have a larger dose of benadryl but you will need to check her weight and the number of milligrams (mg) she has already received. Thank you for providing pictures of the affected area. From what I can observe it does not look infected at this stage. i would continue to monitor at home for the time being. Signs of infection would include; Pain Redness- which is growing or spreading Discharge Foul odor Swelling Changes in appetite Vomiting or dirrhoea In the meantime you can apply a cool compress to the bumps forever few hours for the first 24, then switch to a warm compress. My dog got bit by some type of insect and now her left eye is swollen
Poor girl. Sometimes Benadryl can be tried in pets with an acute allergic reaction to insect bites with success. You can also try applying a cold compress on the swollen area for 5-10 minutes (if allowed) to reduce the swelling. As long as the swelling improves and does not spread over the next 24 hrs, and Sophia does not have any systemic effects (i..e lethargy, pale gums, heavy breathing, swelling around the neck), then she can potentially recover from this with antihistamines (i.e. diphenhydramine) alone. However some pets will require a steroid shot to stop the reaction, which your vet should be able to give Sophia if needed.
