My tiny chihuahua ate dark chocolate and is shaking. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

My dog this morning swallowed an unknown amount of Dark Chocolate. I don't believe that it was a large amount, but my dog is a chihuahua and a runt so she is pretty tiny. She has been looking at us with slit eyes, shaking, has tense muscles, is restless and had recently just started drinking some water. Other than that, her poop was solid and pretty dark. She hasn't throw up or anything. She still will get up and wag her tail and mess with my other dog a little bit, but I'm just worried.

Shaking and tremors are a sign of chocolate toxicity. The darker the chocolate the smaller the amount takes to cause symptoms. It is best to get seen since she is so small with the tremors for hospitalization with IV fluids to help minimize the symptoms and let her recover
