How to stop my unneutered male cat from biting and hurting my other cat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | unneutered | 10 months and 1 day old | 12.5 lbs

I have a 11 month old male cat named Cleetus, he isn't neutered. I also have a 11 month old male cat named Aspen, he is fixed. Well Cleetus will get up on Aspens back bite the nap of his neck and knead really hard. To the point he draws blood. Why does he do it? Is there anything I can do to stop him?

This is typical dominance behavior and can be strongly influenced by sexual hormones. The first and most important thing to do is to have the second cat neutered. You may start to see his behaviors improvibg after 1-2 months. If he continues, try to intervene every time you see this behavior by squirting him with a spray water bottle, etc.

Hi! There are a few reason why Wader could be showing this behavior. He may still have testosterone in his system, I am not sure when he got neutered but it takes 60 days for the hormones to clear their system. It could also be that he is just trying to be the dominant cat in the household and this is why he's behaving this way. I would make sure both cats have somewhere separate to eat and go to the bathroom. When he acts badly, try squirting him with a water bottle. Finally, try the Calm diet from Royal Canin. This can really help with behavioral issues and is easy to do. Best of luck!

He is either rough playing or asserting dominance. If he was neutered he is not trying to mate her. The best thing to try if you want the cats to get along would be Feliway. I suggest getting the diffusers for the house and then the spray to use as needed in certain areas or situations. The Feliway website is a good source of reference. https://www.feliway.com/us#redirected https://www.feliway.com/us/What-causes-cat-stress-or-anxiety/How-to-help-prevent-or-reduce-cats-fighting-or-conflict https://www.feliway.com/us/FELIWAY/Feliway-MultiCat-Diffuser https://www.feliway.com/us/Special-Offers I know it sounds "hokey" but it really works in most situations. It won't hurt anything and might help. It is easy enough to do. I would not expect an immediate change in behavior but within a week or two you should notice a change. I have had many, many owners rave about it. There is a special offer for a discount (the 4th link above) so take advantage of that. You can also buy the products at most Petcos or other large pet stores. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!
